Chris Cox is a widely respected cowboy who provides training and clinics about horses. He has a RFD-TV program called Chris Cox Horsemanship on three times a week, regularly appears at horse shows around the world giving his “Ride the Journey Tour”, has many good videos, an online store, raises and trains horses, writes books and in 2007 and 2008 won the Road to the Horse Colt Starting Championship. I have no idea if he ever sleeps.

I’ve always found Chris to be one of the best trainers around. He is a good communicator, is patient, has a very clear view of what needs to be done with a given horse at a given moment, and works well with beginning riders. One of his most famous quotes is “I’m not a horse trainer, I’m a horseman. What’s the difference? A horse trainer trains horses; a horseman trains himself.”

chris-and-barbaraFrom his website:
“Raised on a cattle ranch in the wilds of Australia, Chris has a strong background in both Western and English disciplines….At eighteen, he took the first step to fulfilling that dream and headed back to America. Following some ranch work in Florida, Cox began training mustangs for the Bureau of Land Management. Throughout the ’80s and ’90s Cox took in horses to train and began to devise what has become his trademark program – a step-by-step progression of skills for all levels of horsemen to improve their horsemanship….. He has implemented a style and technique that has universal effectiveness, whatever the riding style. His common sense, straight forward approach enables horsemen and women at all levels to gain insight into horse behavior and leads them into a safe, versatile partnership…on the ground and in the saddle. Chris travels regularly to expos and horse events across the country, and holds numerous clinics throughout the year.”

Chris and his wife Barbara (picture above) live on their 175 acre Diamond Double C Ranch in Mineral Springs, Texas.
