2013 Brannaman Pro-Am Vaquero Roping

Buck Brannaman healing in Big Loop at Will James Roundup Ranch Rodeo at Hardin Montana

Back in April I posted a blog entry about the first ever Buck Brannaman Pro-Am Vaquero Roping competition. Just wanted remind folks now that it is getting closer.

October 26-27, 2013 at the Santa Ynez Equestrian Center in California. You can get more information by clicking HERE.

This is a ranch roping competition, not like the team roping that is part of most rodeos. This is about big loop reatas, horsemanship skills and minimum stress to the cattle. I think about 120 top ropers will be competing with money prizes for the winners.

As Buck Brannaman said “An event that allows the participants to display the kind of horsemanship and roping skills that stockmen use every day and that reflect the philosophy and approach to work as practiced by the late Bill & Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt. This event will help share and promote those skills with those interested in improving their roping as they participate in an event the entire family can enjoy. The traditions of the California vaquero and his ways with horses and cattle will not stand the test of time if we don’t encourage others to embrace those traditions and make them available to new participants. I look forward to seeing you at the roping in Santa Ynez.”

I’m a sponsor and it should be a great event. Jeffrey Mundell will be the announcer and the the event is being managed by my friends Buck Brannaman, Reata Brannaman, Bill Reynolds, and Buddy Purel. I haven’t heard yet who the judges will be.

Please mark your calendar and help spread the word. Hope to see you there!
