If you like reata ropes you’ll love two hours watching Bill Dorrance and Randy Tieman show you in great detail how to make a reata. Great winter project. The video is titled “Four Strands of Rawhide, the making of a reata”.

The instructions are extremely clear and concise, filled with the “little details” that make a big difference in a piece of quality cowboy gear.

However this film is much more than simply an instructional video. It’s a rare opportunity to enjoy Bill Dorrance the masterful braider, teacher and horseman as he shares his stories and insights into rawhide braiding, roping, horses and life.

It was made in 1995 and I was privileged to own it back in 2000 when it was first released in VHS format. I thought as the technology changed we’d lost it forever. But good news!

Randy Rieman has had it converted to DVD format and you can buy it from him HERE or from Jeremiah Watt HERE (third item down).

It’s expensive but definitely worth it. So glad it has been preserved. I plan on watching it again tonight.
