You probably know I’ve been involved with the National Day of the Cowboy organization and on Saturday, October 22, 2011 they will be holding their annual fundraiser at the Rock Springs Cafe in Black Canyon City, Arizona. 5pm-11pm.
Here’s their press release about the event:
Mark your calendars, cowboys and cowgirls! On October 22nd the Rock Springs Café in Black Canyon City will host a “Hats Off to the Cowboy” Western style get-together and barbecue as a fundraiser for the National Day of the Cowboy nonprofit.
Besides a night of dining and live entertainment, outstanding items will be raffled off during the evening, including an autographed guitar, a set of five NDOC Hatch posters, signed Western books, tack, and approximately fifteen other items. Raffle tickets will be on sale at the event, and those wearing a cowboy hat to the event receive a FREE ticket.
The National Day of the Cowboy (NDOC), an organization emerging from its infancy and quickly coming into its own, has been a long-term project of Bethany Braley’s, whose goal is to have this day officially adopted by the United States Congress. In fact, on Friday, June 20, 2008, the National Day of the Cowboy resolution passed in the Arizona State Legislature, making Arizona the first state to pass the resolution.
Just this past year, the National Day of the Cowboy was added by the Texas legislature, the New Mexico legislature, Georgia, Nebraska, and numerous city and county municipalities across the country. Several other states have officially adopted the day and added it to their calendar. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed a proclamation proclaiming July as Arizona Cowboy Month.
The mission of the National Day of the Cowboy nonprofit organization is to contribute to the preservation of America’s Cowboy heritage so that the history and culture which the United States Congress’s National Day of the Cowboy resolution honors, can be shared and perpetuated for the public good, through education, the arts, celebrations, gatherings, rodeos, and community activities.
Sponsored in the U.S. Senate in 2005, 2006, and 2007, by Wyoming’s late U.S. Senator, Craig Thomas, the National Day of the Cowboy is a day set aside to celebrate the contribution of the Cowboy and Cowgirl to America’s culture and heritage. In 2008, the National Day of the Cowboy resolution was sponsored simultaneously in the U.S. House of Representatives (for the first time) by Arizona’s U.S. Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, and in the U.S. Senate by Senator Mike Enzi, WY. It passed in the Senate and the House concurrently, naming Saturday, July 26, 2008 as the 4th Annual National Day of the Cowboy.
Tickets for the “Hats Off to the Cowboy” festivity are $20 a person and can be purchased online at a www.nationaldayofthecowboy.com.
