The Fairfield Farm

By November 27, 2010 Cattle, Ranches

A really nice family, Ron and Suzanne Fairchild plus their 7 children, live on a farm in Canby, Minnesota (that’s near the South Dakota border). They grow many things, Suzanne is a talented artist, but what caught my interest is their feedlot operation.

They have 500 head capacity, open air lots with mounds. And they need someone to bring their cattle there!

From their website:
“Ron and I feel pretty strongly about having cattle in a set up with the sun on their backs and wind through their fur. God made this wonderful animal to see the sunlight! We think as long as you bed well, keep up on the manure and buy quality cattle you don’t have problems in a dirt lot situation.

“We love those western calves, heavy 4 weights or 5’s. Those Dakotans and their neighbors to the west sure know how to raise some great animals!

“Everybody has tight margins, and we understand that. We feel passionate about the feeding industry and will treat you and your cattle right. After all, you only succeed if we do and we want repeat customers!

“We can also talk about how we feed, tell you our suppliers for hay and straw/cornstalks and show off our 45×90 bunker that can hold 36,000 bushels of corn.

“As far as feed reps go, we’ve worked with a few and have our favorites, but if you have someone we can definitely go with yours. We also have bins that we can rent, and if you want to bag feed we sure can do that. We also store pellets under roof. Remember, it’s our job to accommodate your needs, and make you feel comfortable in your choice to let us feed for you.

“Ron and I have a darn good reputation in the feeding industry and we love our work. Come talk to us or give us a call. We are happy to show you around, and the kids and I make some great cookies!

“Oh yes, we have references upon request.”
