Now that winter is upon us it is important to focus on animal health and welfare. Mature cows can handle most cold nights but new calves need to be warmer. Some folks in Idaho and Montana have come up with a great solution for little ones – calf ear muffs. Well, why not?
Muffs are made of wool or warm polar fleece fabric. They are halter style with velcro under the throat, are washable and reusable for years. The muffs should be rubbed on the newborn calf as soon as possible after it is born to give it their scent.
One of the places you can get these is Marge’s Muffs in Saskatchewan, Canada. You can get more information at her website HERE.
Or you can make your own following the instructions HERE.
