The National Reined Cow Horse Association, celebrating its 60th Anniversary in 2009, is the governing body of cow horse competition responsible for promoting the sport, insuring high standards of competition and educating members and the public about the history and tradition of the cow horse. Cow horses are horses that are specifically bred and trained to handle cows. They can be of any breed.
The NRCHA runs events all throughout the country where riders of different skill levels are put into classes where they can show off their horsemanship and the horses ability to smoothly follow precise patterns, stop, spin, take a cow down the fence, circle a running cow, backup, etc. It is all about the horse and rider being in complete control at all times. And making it look effortless.
