The Riata Ranch Cowboy Girls organization empowers young people by building positive life skills in a safe environment that in turn changes lives by allowing motivated youth to become great citizens. Based in Exeter, California, Executive Director Jennifer Welch Nicholson has been running the organization for 32 years.
From their website:
Riata Ranch provides a basic and thorough equine education while building a solid foundation of horsemanship and leadership. It’s a unique concept that teaches young people about their own character, our western heritage, cowboy traditions as well as valuable life-lessons of hard work, discipline, pride and respect from the back of a horse of which to date 3,500 students have been able to experience. While focusing on the basic elements of horseback riding, the program utilizes the following aspects of development:
1. Physical fitness & Strength Building – A can do attitude, self esteem and self awareness
2. Trick Riding & Vaulting -Balance, determination, and control
3. Trick Roping – Control of emotions, discipline, and tenacity
4. Stage Presence – Self Expression, confidence and poise
This program is designed for young riders with little or no experience and is a hands on from the ground up training program.
Since 1979 the Riata Ranch Cowboy girls have wowed audiences around the world with their brand of western performance. During the fall and winter Riata Ranch offers specialized training in trick riding, Roman Riding and trick roping for those individuals who are interested in learning these unique skills.
