My quarter horse Summer Soda’s grandfather is Smart Little Lena.
Smart Little Lena, better known as “the Legend”, was a brilliant sorrel stallion who dazzled crowds not only as a thrilling performer, but also an outstanding sire with foals earning in excess of $36.5 million.
He was one of only 3 horses to win the National Cutting Horse Assocation Triple Crown: Futurity, Super Stakes, and Derby.
Born in 1979, Smart Little Lena was owned by Bill Freeman in Rosston, Texas and then was put into a breeding syndicate with Hanes Chathamat at the Tommy Manion Ranch in Aubrey, Texas. He’s still alive (age 30) and his frozen semen is available for breeding.
