Wild Cow Catchers

By February 3, 2011 Cattle, Cowboys

One of the most challenging things you can do as a cowboy is rounding up wild cows in the mountains. They definitely do not want to get caught, the terrain can be really difficult and you are far away from help. Often you are called upon to catch a cow on your own, and if successful, the question becomes ‘what do I do with him now?’.

Two of the best at this are Travis and Wheeler Ericsson.

From their website:

“Travis and Wheeler Ericsson are the products of six generations of cowboys. The sons of renowned cowboy and world champion bronc rider Dave Ericsson, they were born and raised around good horses and wild cattle.

“Learning the trade at an early age, the two have kept their father’s legacy alive cowboying in some of the roughest country on the globe. They have the strength and know-how to track, find, catch, and more importantly, get the cattle to the sale barn.

“Travis works as a professional horse trainer and team roper. He enjoys family life with his wife, Rebekah, and daughters Grace and Hailey.

“Wheeler has excelled in the world of bronc riding and now works as a cowboy in southern Arizona. He has a wife, Lacy, and son, Leaf.

Together with a skillful crew, they continue to bring in wild cattle from wild country.”

And you can ride with them and learn how to do this. Again from the website:

“Whether you want to learn the trade or just experience the lifestyle, spend a day or a week with the Ericsson’s and their crew. This is not your Mama’s dude ranch. It’s hard work and fast action with real cowboys catching cattle.

Depending on your time, ability and interest, Travis can customize your experience. For those wanting to learn how to track, catch and lead wild cattle or for those that would like to just ride along and watch how it’s done, this is a once in a lifetime experience you’ll remember and talk about for the rest of your life.

This experience costs anywhere from $500 to $5,000 depending upon your level of participation and days riding out. Meals, bedrolls, tents and horses will be supplied as needed.

Don’t miss out on this unique experience. Contact Travis today and take a ride on the wild side.”
